This week’s Woodbourn Murray Grey sale was number thirty three for the Wallace family, of Woodbourn, Cressy, Northern Tasmania and it was an outstanding success. Following on from their very successful Angus sale two weeks ago.

With the large contingent of mainland buyers and a very strong local support, sale averages were very good with a complete clearance. Thirty three bulls were offered and thirty three were sold to a top of $10500 and an average of  $5300. The top priced bull went to Molong in NSW to Mr Graham Hobbs. He was an exceptional young bull who had attracted a lot of attention since the Woodbourn catalogue was mailed out in March. His figures were beautifully balanced with a great range, from moderate birth to high growth and extremely good carcase figures. In his comments about the bull in the sale catalogue, Mr Wallace said, ‘There is class everywhere here with length, thickness, do ability and in my opinion, this bull is one of the picks of the offering.’

The sale barn was full of local and interstate buyers to the point of overflowing. King Island was very well represented, taking home twelve animals, with Mr Peter Bowling of Surprise Bay, King Island, a volume buyer, purchasing five Murray Grey bulls from this sale and also two Angus bulls from the Woodbourn Angus sale two weeks ago.

Not forgetting the large offering of females at this year’s sale; 41 females were sold, averaging  $2465 for adult females and $1865 for heifers.

Another large volume buyer of females and a bull was new client, Webb mining who purchased eleven young females and one bull.

Mr Wallace said he was very very pleased with the sale results and looks forward to seeing everyone as he delivers his animals all around the state, from Marrawah to Derby and Gladstone to Ouse.
